Methods For Mass Murder One of the most famous forms of mass killing was to take the Jews from the Death Camps, line them up, and shoot them. There were many stages to this though that make it al the more horrific. Firstly, the Jews were crowded into a square in front of the airport, a few trucks drove up from the direction of a town. From these trucks, a group of field police were immediately taken to the side. Then a number of tables were then lined up. Other trucks carried militiamen and chloride of lime which was then placed near ditches to quicken the decomposing of bodies. At this time, one row of Jews was called and allocated to different tables where they would be told to undress completely and hand over everything they had including jewelry. After this, they were told to stand in a line in front of the ditches, no matter what their gender was. At this time, they were shot down by policemen and military men by automatic pistols. No one was overlooked, some women who carried children in their earliest of youth, were spared from this horrible ordeal. These slaughters lasted for nine or so hours, rows upon rows of Jews were gunned down until there was just an empty silence that filled the air as the smell of blood wafts through the air sending a chilling message to everyone around them. At some places, more than 30,000 Jews would be killed at these events.
One of the other killing methods was using mobile gassing trucks. It happened quite systematically too, the Jews were forced into a air tight truck, and then exhaust gas from the engine was led into the truck. The Jews were thus suffocated.The method was first used in the Soviet Union by the four "Einsatzgruppen," to try to make their killing operations more effective (than by using the mass shootings). Also, gassing trucks were introduced to try to avoid that the killers became emotionally hit by the murders. But gassing trucks were also used to murder Jews in Poland and in Serbia. The Einsatzgruppen in the occupied parts of the Soviet Union used around 15 gassing trucks.
